KAA Gent
Introduction
To admit more than 13.000 fan ticket holders faster and more securely, KAA Gent launched an 18-month pilot with Palmki palm-vein recognition—a first for Belgian Pro-League football.
The Challenge
Long queues at entrance
Compliant with new football law identification of fans
GDPR compliance: facial or fingerprint scanners were ruled out
The Palmki Solution
Step | Implementation | Benefit |
---|---|---|
Enrolment | One-time palm registration; vein pattern transformed into hashed code and stored locally | No badge or ticket needed |
Fast-Lane turnstiles | Palmki sensor + speed gate | < 1 sec scan, fast entrance |
Role & time profiles | Managed in software | Flexible, non-transferable rights |
Privacy by design | Only a mathematical hash is stored; logs show match/no-match Explicit approval from users | Full GDPR compliance |
Early Effects (first season)
Queues at the entrance have been reduced to a brief flow-through.
User feedback is positive, citing ease of use.
KAA Gent planned a phased roll-out and a link to cashless food-and-beverage payments.
